I'd rather have an extensive 40 hour experience like in Mass Effect 2 than a boring, meh-filled, over-hyped, linear, soulless 2 hour "game".

It's not about length, it's about quality. Modern Warfare 2/3, Black Ops, etc. have neither.

Yup. CoD lost all innovation and quality assurance after World at War. And it lost all balance after CoD 4.

No, it lost innovation after CoD4. Call of Duty 4 was a massive improvement of the third installation, it combined a First Person Shooter with progression elements never seen mixed so well with a shooter before. The graphics, while not revolutionary, were quite nice for its time, and the game was well balanced and fun (with a few exceptions, but perfect balance is difficult to achieve.)

World at War was the same game, with Zombie mode added. That was the great new innovation.

Modern Warfare 2 was the same game... They added a little bit of multiplayer content, nothing worthwhile. The maps weren't as loveable as the ones in CoD4, and the guns and perks were unbalanced.

Black Ops - Same game. Brought back zombie mode. That's not innovation, it's adding back something they just took out. Innovations include -> Bot mode (Has been in almost all PC games since the dawn of gaming). Gun game (Has been in many PC games since Counter Strike).

Modern Warfare 3 - Same game, innovations include charging you monthly for useless statistics that help you with nothing. And guess what, most games give you those statistics for free.

Standards these days have changed. Too many games are terrible ports, lack innovation or are just poorly made.

Makes you appreciate some of the oldies.

It's sad but gamers nowadays prefer Iteration over Innovation (Just look at the sales of the past Call of Dutys compared to Section 8: Prejudice). There's few of us that really scream for a change.
