Guild Wars 2 Discussion
« on: October 29, 2011, 06:06:23 AM »
So I looked around on the forum and I did find a few topics about Guild Wars 2 but none of them went into much detail about the game, so I'm making this one anyway, feel free to say something if I'm wrong.

To be added:
  • Race Info
  • Personal Story
  • Lore
  • Hall of Monuments

Professions
Professions are divided into 3 categories based on the armour type that they wear, 2 Heavily Armoured Soldiers, 3 Medium Armoured Adventurers and 3 Lightly Armoured Scholars.

Soldiers

  • Guardian

The Guardian is a magic-themed Soldier Profession that specialises as a Master of Protection. Being based off a mix of the Monk and Paragon from the first game, the Guardian uses Virtues to enhance attacks and defences of themselves and their allies. There are 3 virtues:
    • Courage - Provides the Guardian with Aegis
    • Justice - Provides the Guardian with Burning Attacks

    and
  • Resolve - Provides the Guardian with Rejuvenation

  • Warrior
Guild Wars 2 E3 2010 Warrior Skill Gameplay Trailer [HD]

The Warrior is a adrenaline-fuelled Soldier Profession that specialises as a Master of Weapons. Warriors use adrenaline that is built up during combat to power burst skills, which are determined by the Warrior's main-hand weapon. Burst skills have 3 different power levels depending on the amount of adrenaline built up over combat, so a burst skill would be more affective with more adrenaline saved.
Adventurers

  • Engineer
Guild Wars 2 Engineer Skills Gameplay Trailer [HD]

The Engineer is a technology-themed Adventurer Profession that specialises as a Master of Mechanics. It's main mechanics, The Tool Belt, allows the Engineer to use Backpack Kits, Weapon Kits and Turrets. The Engineer can use the tool belt regardless of what kit they have active, however they are limited to only one weapon set.

  • Ranger
Guild Wars 2 Gameplay [Ranger HD]

The Ranger is a nature-themed Adventurer Profession that specialises as a Master of Nature. It's unique mechanic is the Animal Companion which can be called upon to aid the Ranger in battle and can be controlled by the Ranger using a command bar given for the Ranger's pet.

  • Thief
Guild Wars 2 - Thief Skills Trailer

The Thief is a shadow-themed Adventurer Profession that specialises as a Master of Covert Arts. Thieves use initiative which can be built up by chain attacking with skills and making custom combos, in order to recharge their skills. They can also use stealth in order to avoid combat and can steal environmental weapons from enemies.
Scholars

  • Elementalist
Guild Wars 2 Elementalist Class Skills

The Elementalist is a spell-casting Scholar Profession that specialises as a Master of the Elements. Elementalists can attune to different elements in battle in order to aid the situation they are in. They can attune to one of four elements at any one time.
    • Air
    • Earth
    • Fire

    or
  • Water
Each attunement provides different skills depending on the Elementalist's weapon set. But only one can be used at any one time.

  • Necromancer
Guild Wars 2 Necromancer Class Skills

The Necromancer is another spell-casting Scholar Profession that specialises as a Master of the Dark Arts. Necromancers can draw upon the Life Force of an enemy in order to strengthen their abilities. However, Life Force's main function is to fuel Death Shroud which allows the Necromancer to have access to new skills and removes the risk of Knock-down.

  • Mesmer
Guild Wars 2 - Mesmer Reveal Trailer

The Mesmer is the final spell-casting Scholar Profession that specialises as a Master of Illusions. Necromancers can create Illusions in order to aid them in combat, such as the clone (A clone of the caster but with low health and damage) and Phantasms (An image of the caster but with high health and damage). Mesmers can also shatter Illusions to apply buffs to themselves and party members.

    April Fool's Day Profession

    • Commando
Guild Wars 2 - Commando Skills

The Commando is a military-trained Soldier Profession that specialises as Master of the Battlefield. Commandos are not bound to a set of weapons and use line of sight to attack enemies. They can use snipers to attack enemies from across the map whereas other professions have to run there. They can use grenades as an AoE attack, Vehicles to open new skills and unlock areas that they couldn't access previously and Force Multipliers that can change depending on how many enemies the Commando has killed within a single life.

    Races
Guild Wars 2 Races Trailer [HD]

The playable races are Tyrian species that players can select from during character creation. A character's race has effect on various features, both aesthetically and gameplay-wise.
Players can choose between five different races at the initial release of Guild Wars 2: asura, charr, human, norn or sylvari.

    Asura
Guild Wars 2 Asura's Race Trailer [HD]

The Asura are a race of short (Being about 4 feet tall) subterranean artisans who only recently were forced to the surface due to the emergence of Primordus' Champion The Great Destroyer. Over the past 250 years, the Asura have quickly adapted to surface life and established themselves as one of the most powerful races in Tyria.

The Asura think that Mind is always over Matter, Brain is always over Brawn and as such an Asura's intellect is the most valued of all its attributes.
They pride themselves in being masters of Magical Engineering, creating immense floating cube-shaped buildings and Golems to protect and serve them.
It was also the Asura that helped to unite the 5 races, by having linking Asura Gates (Portals) to each major city (Lion's Arch, Rata Sum, The Black Citadel, The Grove and Hoelbrak).

The Asura believe in the Eternal Alchemy, that all beings and magics are part of a much greater purpose (Sometimes referred to as a machine). Some Asura believe that like any other machine, the Eternal Alchemy can be mastered and controlled, and in turn can master Tyria.

    Charr
Guild Wars 2 : Official Charr Race Trailer [HD] Small | Large

The Charr are a race of large, feline savages that occupy most of Eastern Tyria. They have donounced all Gods as false after being manipulated by the Charr Flame Legion and the Shaman caste into believing that the Titans (and later the Destroyers) were their Gods. And as such view all life, magic and combat with a cynical eye. The Charr are down to the core a military race, being raised as Warriors for their Warband from birth.

All the videos have been removed...
Administrator Edit: Sorry, but as much as I like your sig, it's too tall, and it's distracting. Let's keep away from animated sigs.

Having never played previous Guild Wars, I know nothing of the lore. At all.
However, I'm still fucking stoked for this game.
